Website SEO Introduction
By Andy Kaiser
Blue broccoli. You love it so much,
you've created a website about it. You want people to Google "blue broccoli",
and be able to find your website in the results. Only it doesn't happen. Why
can't people find your site?
Making your website more popular on
Internet searches is called SEO, or Search Engine Optimization. SEO is a big
industry, and companies spend mucho dinero on their own website SEO. We can do
it too: It's possible for a little broccoli like us to compete in a supermarket
of veggies.
Improving your website's
broccoli-related search engine results is possible and free, but does take time.
Make sure, however, your topic hasn't already been done to death. If you're
competing with a thousand other "blue broccoli" sites, getting ahead will be
tough.
If you create a website, chances
are it's already been found automatically by the big three search engines:
Google, Yahoo and MSN. But like my third grade experience of never getting
picked for T-Ball, if your website doesn't know the rules, it won't be in the
game. Read more

iSeries Customers:
Considering Upgrading to V5R4?
Many of our iSeries
customers have a ‘window’ in December where they can take advantage
of performing system upgrades. If you are one of those customers,
you might consider upgrading your iSeries operating system to V5R4.
Here are just a few reasons for you to upgrade:
- Your vendor
software’s latest release or enhancements requires V5R4
- You have seen the
new IBM Web Query product and want to try it out (it requires
V5R4)
- You need to
shorten your backup window: How about backing up directly to
disk using a virtual tape drive? Backing up directly to disk is
the fastest method available, and with V5R4 virtual tape drives,
you are no longer limited to one library at a time as you were
when using save files.
- You would like to
be able to save and restore spool files. Not spool files which
have been converted to database files, but actual spool files.
You can do that with V5R4.
- V5 R4 takes full
advantage of the enhanced query optimizer engine so your large
SQL requests may run significantly faster.
- New SQL Resource
governor allows you to control runaway queries.
- Many new tools in
Operations Navigator to assist in analyzing database access and
large SQL jobs.
- Many new
programming functions,

Practical
Productivity - Being Productive Anywhere
I've
always worked beyond normal business hours. Twenty years ago
that meant going back to the office after dinner if I needed
access to files that were on our network. In those early
days, there was no internet, no connection to the office and
having a computer at home was a luxury that few people could
afford – including me.
Fast forward –
it's Sunday night, I'm sitting in the den. There is an HD
movie on TV. I've just gotten a cup of coffee, let the dog
in, and if my timing is right, the accounts receivable batch
that I've started posting will have just finished. I can
look at my network drive for the excel spreadsheet that I
need and then send a report to my printer at work so that
it's there when I get to work in the morning. And to think
I'm doing everything from my laptop. Maybe I don't need to
go to the office after all . . . well, not really.
